After discovering an old color dictionary in a thrift shop, founders Jackie Piper & Victoria Whitbread began a journey to re-establish this long forgotten brand: British Colour Standard.

A treasure trove of color and rich history, first established 1931 and out of use since the 1950’s, Jackie and Victoria acquired and accurately scanned the original color dictionaries. Many hundreds of hues created and logged in the 1930’s have names inspired from nature, flora and fauna, semi-precious stones, and spices as well as ties to historic and royal special events.

Today, British Colour Standard still uses these original colors names while remaining the go-to brand for color in the home while championing eco, sustainable and fair trade production methods.
